Environmental Protection

Conformal Coating & Potting Services

Protect your electronics from the field. Matrix Corp applies conformal coating and potting/encapsulation that shield PCBs from moisture, vibration, chemicals, and temperature extremes — critical for industrial, automotive, and medical applications. Coating selection and masking matched to your spec, applied in-house alongside assembly and test, so one partner handles your board from build to finished product.

Overview

What Is Conformal Coating & Potting

Conformal coating is a thin protective film applied to a printed circuit board that "conforms" to its contours, shielding components and solder joints from environmental hazards. A coated board resists moisture, dust, chemical exposure, salt spray, and condensation — dramatically improving reliability and lifespan in harsh or uncontrolled environments. For products that operate outdoors, in vehicles, in medical settings, or in industrial plants, conformal coating is often the difference between a board that survives and one that corrodes or shorts in the field.

Capabilities

Conformal Coating Types We Offer

Different environments call for different coatings. We help you select the right chemistry for your application:

Acrylic (AR)

easy to apply and rework, good moisture and abrasion resistance; a versatile general-purpose choice.

Silicone (SR)

excellent for high-temperature and high-humidity environments, flexible and resilient to thermal
cycling.

Urethane (UR)

superior chemical and abrasion resistance for harsh chemical environments.

Other chemistries

matched to your spec and industry requirements.

Potting & Encapsulation

Where conformal coating provides a thin protective film, potting and encapsulation fully embed components or assemblies in a protective compound. Potting delivers maximum protection against severe vibration, mechanical shock, moisture ingress, and tampering — ideal for power electronics, automotive modules, and rugged industrial assemblies. We match the potting compound to your thermal, electrical, and mechanical requirements.

Precision Masking

Proper masking is what separates professional coating from a mess. Connectors, test points, and components that must stay coating-free are precisely masked before application and verified after — ensuring complete protection where you need it and clean interfaces where you don't.

Integrated With Assembly & Test

Because we coat and pot in-house alongside assembly, inspection, and box build, your board moves from population to protection to finished product without leaving our facility. One partner, one quality system, full traceability — and no shipping a half-finished board to a separate coating vendor.

Standards & Compliance

Quality Built Into Every Assembly

Coating and potting are performed to IPC-A-610 standards under our ISO 9001:2015 quality system, with RoHS-compliant, environmentally responsible processes and full traceability.

Have Questions?

We Have Answers

What's the difference between conformal coating and potting?

Conformal coating is a thin protective film that conforms to the board's surface. Potting fully encapsulates components in a protective compound for maximum protection against vibration, shock, and moisture. We offer both and help you choose based on your environment.

Which conformal coating type is right for my product?

It depends on your environment. Acrylic is a versatile general-purpose choice; silicone excels in high-temperature and high-humidity conditions; urethane offers superior chemical resistance. We help you select the right chemistry for your application.

Do you mask connectors and components that shouldn't be coated?

Yes. We perform precision masking before coating and verify after application, ensuring complete protection where needed and clean, coating-free interfaces where required.

Can you coat boards you didn't assemble?

Yes. We can apply conformal coating and potting to your supplied assemblies, or as an integrated step in a board we assemble for you.
